Kundu and War Canoe Festival

This 11-day/10-night program is an unescorted program with the highlight being the Kundu & War Canoe Festival. As the name suggests this festival is a celebration of culture and tradition of War Canoes and inherited Kundu drums (musical instrument made from lizard or marsupial skin and special tree bark), depicting the early days before the arrival of white men, missionaries who saw these men prepared themselves and went to traditional war along the eastern tip of Milne Bay Province, Papua New Guinea. The main event of this festival is a canoe race, in which competitors from all around the neighboring areas compete for prize money and fame. Some canoes have up to 50 paddlers, all competing for the glory of being the best crew. Participants in this program will get opportunity to witness for themselves and experience this wonderful program and end with a highlands safari visiting the interior parts of the highlands of Papua New Guinea.
